Joeli Brearley MBE is a campaigner, author and speaker, best known as the founder of Pregnant Then Screwed, the UK's leading charity fighting the motherhood penalty.
She founded the organisation in 2015 after her own experience of pregnancy discrimination and led it for a decade, growing it into an award-winning charity with a community of over 400,000. Her campaigning has been credited with influencing the £5.1 billion childcare investment announced in 2023, new flexible working and redundancy protection laws, and key protections for parents during the pandemic. She has given evidence in Parliament numerous times, advised the Quebec Government and the office of the US President on childcare policy, and is the author of Pregnant Then Screwed: The Truth About the Motherhood Penalty and How to Fix It. She now works as a speaker and consultant, helping organisations build workplaces that work for parents.
Joeli has suffered with chronic restless leg syndrome (RLS) since she was 9 years old and was prescribed Ropinirole in 2022. The drug had a catastrophic impact on her symptoms and her mental health when she augmented.
