Dr. J. Andrew Berkowski, MD, FAASM is a sleep neurologist practicing in the United States and an expert in restless legs syndrome (RLS).

He co-authored the landmark 2025 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the treatment of RLS by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), which recommended AGAINST the use all dopaminergic agents in the standard treatment of RLS. He has also co-authored the Updated Algorithm for the Management of RLS as part of the RLS Foundation’s Scientific and Medical Advisory Board, which was published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in May 2026.

Dr. Berkowski completed his fellowship in sleep medicine at Stanford University before spending seven years as an academic sleep specialist including at the University of Michigan and the Cleveland Clinic. In 2022, he founded ReLACS Health, a unique, independent and telemedicine-based sleep clinic dedicated to the treatment of RLS and other complex sleep conditions that are neglected by the US healthcare system due to unprofitability in the insurance-based system.

Dr. Berkowski has lectured at international conferences for the International RLS Study Group and is a Fellow of AASM and regularly speaks at the Associated Professional Sleep Societies’ annual meeting in the US. He has long served on the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board of the RLS Foundation, writes a column in its quarterly newsletter, and presents at patient educational conferences and webinars for the Foundation.
